Mmmmm....dessert

I guess the 2nd trimester is finally here, and I'm starting to feel the surge of energy too because I'm baking.... Butterscotch Blondies

Click on the photo for the recipe and blog I got it from...

Although I'm not over my "morning" sickness by any means...I'm on two different medications for nausea and heartburn (fun, fun but at they're a HUGE help!) at least the energy is returning! It probably helps that we've had a full week of mostly sunny days which has meant several trips to the park with Grady and Berkley, a trip to the zoo, and in general wonderful sunlight flooding my house which makes me happy & apparently energized. So here's to increased energy, spring cleaning, sunshine puddles and occasional baking! Stick around spring, and come soon summer!

GuACaMOLE!

Grady LOVES guacamole, I usually make it for him at least once a week. He chows it down and loves to dip whatever he's eating in it!

What Grady's Up to These Days...

Words I'm saying:

  • tooth
  • brush
  • mouth
  • ball (by far the most said word :)
  • dog
  • dad
  • mom
  • shoe
  • what's this or this
  • done
  • please
  • bye

What I'm doing:

  • I can point to my: belly, head, ear, mouth, teeth, nose, feet and eye when mommy or daddy asks
  • I like to sing in the car
  • playing with balls, balls, balls and cars
  • getting books out of my bookcase and asking mom to read them for me
  • putting puzzles and shape sorters together
  • turning the TV on and off...our tv has the BIGGEST on/off button ever, so fun!
  • tackling Berkley
  • eating of a big boy plate
  • blowing kisses
  • giving hugs
  • waving bye
  • walking from the car into stores/church/home when I hold mommy's hand

My favorites:

  • balls
  • sesame street (murray the monster and elmo are the best)
  • guacamole!
  • cheese
  • playing at the park
  • my pets
  • making people laugh
  • bath time/naked time

The Art of Play

It's safe to say that Grady is enjoying the 'Art of Play.'
Last week we went to the zoo with my friend Abby and her son (Grady's buddy), Blake. Here they are watching the penguins.

Grady found a little 'cave.'

Really wanted to touch the waterfall, but it's off limits!

Always having a fun time with Berkley!

There's a relatively new play area at our mall, and it's one of Grady's favorite things to do on a cloudy/bad weather day!

He's always having fun in the bath - playing basketball and being a little clown in general!

Littering

I actually do have some pictures to post...but it's sunny outside and I'm inspired to clean and get some vitamin D, SOOO, for now I'll just say this...

I hate littering....I was driving home from MOPS this morning and a girl just started throwing out straws, etc, from her window. SERIOUSLY! If you do this, or litter in any other way..please STOP! It is so selfish, rude, lazy and inconsiderate of others and our environment. Same goes for cigarette butts out the car window...just don't!

That being said, I'm actually having a great day and feeling good, which hasn't happened in awhile, so I hope you have a great day too and it's sunny wherever you are :) Happy Tuesday!

Design on a Budget....

This morning I spoke at a mom's group at a local Catholic church. I spoke about design on a budget. I really believe that home design specifically, isn't about keeping up with the latest trends or impressing your neighbors, it's about creating a refuge for our families. Our homes are meant to be a refuge and shelter for our families -- a safe place. A place where our family looks forward to being and when they do leave, they leave refreshed and renewed.

Usually when this topic is brought up it's discussed in light of emotional safety, spiritual retreat a place to get away from the stress of the world. It's not very often we talk about creating a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing environment for our families to take refuge in -- (that might be materialistic!) Not the case! Design definitely impacts our ability to perceive home as an emotional and spiritual retreat. However, I don't believe this means you now have license to go out and spend an exorbitant amount of money to make your home a refuge. There are plenty of budget friendly ideas for updating your home and creating a welcoming and peaceful environment for your family and all who enter your home! Take a look...
